Team members of the Ottawa Anxiety and Trauma Clinic are actively involved in education and training of health care professionals locally, nationally, and internationally. Members of the team have been teaching in the area of anxiety and trauma for decades. Dr. Fraser and Dr. Welburn were members of a group that pioneered training in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Dissociation by the Canadian Psychiatric Association. More recently, Dr. Welburn and Dr. Fraser taught the ISSD course on Dissociative Disorders to mental health professionals in the Ottawa area. Dr. Jordan is a part-time professor at the School of Psychology, University of Ottawa and was awarded the Part-time Professor of the Year Award in 2005.
Team members provide training workshops and didactic presentations to family physicians, mental health professionals, hospital staff, community organizations, the Canadian Forces, Veterans Affairs Canada, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), the City of Ottawa, the National Parole Board, Corrections Services Canada, the National Institute for Disability Management and Rehabilitation (NIDMAR), and private corporations. These workshops and presentations cover a wide range of topics including: assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders, assessment and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, assessment of dissociation using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Dissociative Disorders, treatment of dissociation with the Dissociative Table Technique, clinical hypnosis, parenting skills training, and assertiveness skills training.
Dr. Welburn and Dr. Jordan provide consultation to mental health professionals and supervision of postdoctoral level psychologists and psychological associates.
The Ottawa Anxiety and Trauma Clinic in affiliation with the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre (Ottawa) hosts an annual conference that provides state-of-the-art education and training in the area of trauma and dissociation with internationally renowned speakers.
Ottawa Clinical Hypnosis Society
Dr. Suzanne Simond is the current chair of the Ottawa Clinical Hypnosis Society. This group of health care professionals meets to discuss clinical and research issues in the area of clinical hypnosis. The group meets monthly at the Ottawa Anxiety & Trauma Clinic. Ottawa Group Psychotherapy Training Institute (OGPTI)
The Ottawa Group Psychotherapy Training Institute (OGPTI) has been providing excellent training in group psychotherapy for over 15 years. Dr. George Tasca (Ottawa General Hospital) is the current chair of the OGPTI. Dr. Welburn, Dr. Albuquerque and Dr. Jordan are teaching faculty members. The Ottawa Group Psychotherapy Training Institute offers an annual training course on group psychotherapy to health care professionals.
