Cognitive-Behavioural Group Therapy for Anxiety Problems

The Ottawa Anxiety & Trauma Clinic offers a group therapy program for anxiety problems. The 10-week group is facilitated by Dr. Ken Welburn, Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Welburn first developed this group program in 1989 and the groups have been running since that time.

The Anxiety Management Group is offered twice a year, starting in September and in March.
The group is cognitive-behavioural (CBT) and exposure-based, where participants learn and apply strategies to manage their anxiety. The group focuses on the “here and now” experience of anxiety and the daily struggles of living with anxiety. Participants learn a model of anxiety and various techniques to reduce the level of anxiety while challenging previously avoided situations. Clients with specific phobias, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and/or social phobia are especially welcome referrals. In addition, you would be a good fit for the anxiety management group if you experience an uncomfortable amount of anxiety, avoid certain situations because of anxiety, and are willing to challenge some of the avoidance in gradual steps over the course of the 10-week program.

Over the 10 weeks, participants will:

We accept both referrals from health care professionals and self-referrals. Fees for the group may be covered by extended health care or other insurance plans that cover psychological services.

Cost: $600 for ten 2-hour groups ($60 per group)
